Viability FAQs

  • What is development viability?

Viability is the key that determines whether a planned development can afford to provide the required social contributions and ultimately whether the planned development can financially viably proceed. In order for development projects to proceed, public and private parties including developers, landowners and planning authorities must work together to evaluate the scheme’s viability. In order that the viability of a scheme can be considered, then a development appraisal must be carried out. This appraisal analyses whether the value generated from the completed development will exceed the costs of undertaking the development, and thereon whether it can afford to go ahead.
