3 simple home improvements for the Bank Holiday Weekend

Now spring has sprung, the sun is shining and energy levels are refreshed – it’s the ideal time to clear out clutter, smarten up your home or tidy up the garden.

Whether you’re planning on selling soon or just want to improve or refresh the look of your home after the winter, if you’re not one of the lucky ones jetting off for guaranteed sun this bank holiday weekend, here are 3 simple and inexpensive home improvement tasks that everyone can do.

Dust out the drain pipes

Guttering and downpipes have a bad habit of collecting fallen leaves, twigs and dirt. All of these can create blockages that cause water to build up and overflow down the side of your property. If left untreated for a long period of time, this can ultimately cause damp inside your home.  Grab a ladder and a friend to hold it steady while you clear out the pipework.

Top tip: Whilst you’re clearing, you could give your fascias a clean or lick of paint too!

Pick up a paintbrush

Your front door, garden gates and fences are the first thing people see when visiting or walking by. Make sure they’re making a good first impression and improve your property’s curb appeal with a fresh coat of paint – a simple but effective trick, especially if you’re planning to put your property on the market soon.

Top tip: Remember to choose a colour in-keeping with the period and age of your property, sage green and blues tend to be popular choices!

Spruce up the garden

Even if you’re not blessed with green fingers, simple tasks such as mowing the lawn, de-weeding and cleaning the patio, decking and drive way will improve the look and feel of your outdoor space no end.

If you stowed away the patio furniture for winter, now is the time to dig them out and wash them off so you’re bank holiday BBQ ready!

Top tip: A few pots or hanging baskets with colourful flowers are a quick and easy way to add colour to your garden with minimal work and maintenance required.
