Kempton Carr Croft is an independent firm of Chartered Surveyors offering professional advice and services relating to commercial and residential property across London and the Thames Valley. The firm conducts a wide range of professional work including building surveying, valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals, commercial property management and commercial sales & lettings.

Kempton Carr Croft is looking to recruit an experienced property management accountant to be based at its head office in Maidenhead.

 

Person specification & role summary

 

The property management accountant has responsibility for the day-to-day financial control of the property management department including rent and service charge collection and relevant recharges, purchase and sales administration reconciliations, banking, annual service charge accounts, client VAT returns and other related accounting functions.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, responsible person with an enquiring mind and an interest in property management who is capable of planning their own time to fulfil a wide range of duties. The successful candidate will also need to show good attention to detail and thoroughness in the way that they work. They will have a flexible and can-do working attitude, be pro-active, self-motivated and able to multi-task extensively to meet on-going deadlines to a high standard.

The property management accountant works with and reports to the General Practice Manager. As part of a small team, this is a demanding role that requires excellent competency across a broad accounting skill set and willingness to take full ownership of the work and its impact on the business.

The role would suit a qualified accountant with experience of working in a small or medium-sized business, though unqualified accountants who can demonstrate the required experience will be considered.

 

Compulsory skill set

 

  • Accounting qualification or demonstrable experience of sole responsibility for accounts in a business with a turnover of over £1m
  • Min 5 years accounting experience and ideally experience in property management accounting
  • Ability to prepare VAT returns
  • Willingness to roll sleeves up and carry out all accounting tasks from the most straight forward daily tasks such as inputting purchase invoices to more demanding jobs such as service charge accounts production and forecasting cash flow
  • Willingness to work to an accounting timetable each month
  • High level of numeracy
  • Ability to follow processes with high attention to detail
  • Proactivity with excellent problem solving skills
  • Ability to build excellent working relationships with clients, suppliers and colleagues at all levels
  • Excellent organisational skills and able to work with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure

 

Compulsory technical skill set

 

  • Excellent working knowledge of Excel
  • Working knowledge of Word

 

Demonstrable experience of:

 

  • Production of accounts showing full understanding of sales, purchase and general ledgers
  • Preparing VAT returns

 

Bonus skills:

 

  • Experience of Riverlake or another property management software system and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Knowledge of Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors regulations and accounting procedures.

 

Principal Duties

 

Weekly

  • Downloading bank transactions and posting receipts on our property management system
  • Purchase ledger – input of purchase invoices and payments; make payments and send remittance advices;
  • Credit control – chasing old debts
  • Bank reconciliations
  • Sending out rent demands, insurance and / or service charge demands

 

Monthly 

  • Transfer/Payments of rents to clients
  • Liaise with property surveyors regarding lease variations, new leases, rent reviews
  • Dealing with queries from colleagues, clients, tenants and solicitors
  • Setting up clients, properties and tenants
  • Liaise with property managers, service charge accountants, clients and tenants where necessary
  • Assist in all other duties, where deemed necessary to help the team.

 

Quarterly 

  • VAT returns, prepare and check and sent to clients (approx. 5 clients)

 

Annually

  • Produce and prepare annual budgets for specific but not all properties
  • Produce annual service charge accounts
  • Prepare client reporting packs and budgets
  • File annual return for Non Resident Landlords

 

Ad Hoc

  • Pay tax collected for NRL if necessary to HMRC
  • Cost analyses on properties, income when required
