We are

 

Kempton Carr Croft is an independent firm of Chartered Surveyors, offering professional advice and services relating to commercial and residential property and land across London and the Thames Valley.

The firm conducts a wide range of professional work including building surveying, valuations, rent reviews and lease renewals, commercial property management and commercial sales and lettings. We are looking to recruit a Head of Building Surveying, reporting to the Managing Director, who will head up a small team, in a firm of over twenty fee-earning professionals.

The Building Surveying Department undertakes a wide variety of work including, but not limited to:

  • Residential and Commercial Building Surveys
  • Dilapidation Schedules and Schedules of Condition
  • Party Wall Awards
  • Contract administration
  • Development Monitoring

The Building Surveying Department currently has three employed Chartered Surveyors, three consultant Chartered Surveyors, a graduate trainee surveyor and an administrator.

 

You are

 

The right candidate should have at least 5 years’ post-qualification (MRICS) experience in undertaking a variety of commercial and residential building surveying work including but not restricted to: residential building surveys, dilapidation schedules, management and monitoring of dilapidations works, overseeing of maintenance, repair and refurbishment works, office and commercial property fit outs, contract administration, co-ordinating tenders of work, site inspections and monitoring of works on behalf of clients and funders.

We are looking for someone who has management experience and who will relish leading a team. You will have a strong marketing and commercial focus and will be expected to grow the department. You will enjoy working with a level of autonomy as well as being part of a team environment. You must have strong communication skills as you must have the ability to liaise with a variety of stakeholders. You must be accurate and have an attention for detail. IT literate, you will be willing to adopt digital methods when undertaking your work. Self-motivated, you will be results focused and driven. A UK driving licence is essential, as you will be required to visit sites to undertake instructions.

 

Main duties of role

 

Your role will be to undertake building surveying work and to manage the Building Surveying Department. Following a settling in period you will be allocated a fee income target, to be agreed, but likely to be between £150,000 and £200,000 pa.

As Head of Department you will be responsible for:

  • Supervising and mentoring all Chartered Surveyors and graduates within the team in order to provide a good broad breadth of work for each professional member of the team and to help and monitor their personal and professional development.
  • Preparing and implementing a quality control scheme for all work within the department.  This should include a regular check on reports from each Chartered Surveyor to ensure the correct templates are being used and quality is to an acceptable level.
  • Keeping templates and terms and conditions up to date and compliant with RICS guidelines.
  • Budgetary control within the department, preparing and delivering annual turnover and profit targets.
  • Preparing monthly team reports including turnover by surveyor.
  • Attending team leader meetings as required and preparing reports for the meeting, and thereafter, as necessary.
  • Complaints handling procedures and dealing with complaints when these arise in accordance with the RICS guidance.
  • Maintaining adequate records for PII and RICS returns.
  • Overall responsibility for business development and marketing of the department.
  • Annual reviews and staffing issues and assessing annual salaries.
  • Ensuring the smooth implementation by the Building Surveying Department of new administrative systems and company-wide initiatives.
