KCC raced the sun to raise £2265.45
On 22nd August 2015, Malcolm, Carolyn, Dave, Luke, Erna, Catrin and Chris represented Kempton Carr Croft as they took on this years charity challenge – ‘Racing the sun’ in aid of Chickshed and Mesothelioma UK.
The gruelling three part endurance event combined cycling, hiking and canoeing across 86km of mixed Lake District terrain – which had to be e completed between sunrise and sunset on the day of the challenge.
The adventure began at dawn with an 40km cycle, then followed a hike to the summit of England’s second highest mountain, Helvellyn at 3,116 ft. A 3km canoe course around Lake Thirlmere followed that, before a final 40km bike ride to the finish line!
Thank you to everybody who donated to the cause, followed the progress and cheered the team on with messages of encouragment to @KemptonCarr on Twitter using #KCC_Challenge – your generosity certainly helped the guys get round the course.
Find out more about Chickenshed
Chickenshed is an inclusive theatre company and registered charity that has been working with children and young people for over 40 years.
We have grown from a small group of enthusiastic young performers, working in local church halls and a disused chicken shed, to a vibrant charity with an international reputation.
In 1994 we moved into our purpose-built Theatre in Southgate, which has continued to grow and develop, and now counts ‘educational campus’ amongst its many characteristics.
Through our membership and education work, network of outreach programmes and branch in Kensington & Chelsea, Chickenshed reaches over 1,000 individuals every week. We are committed to celebrating diversity and inspiring social change through bringing together people of all ages and backgrounds and creating outstanding theatre.
Our inclusive approach is unique in harnessing and developing the creative energy of people who might never normally meet, much less have the opportunity to work together to produce life changing theatre.
We believe that everyone can flourish given the right tools and environment. Where difference can divide, at Chickenshed the difference makes the art.

Exposure to asbestos is responsible for up to 9 out of 10 mesthelioma cases.
Asbestos was used in many different products and buildings from the 1950s to the mid 1980s.
Generally asbestos is only a risk if you disturb or damage it and cause fibres to be released into the air. If you wish to remove asbestos containing materials, professional advice should be sought.
