After graduation and professional training in Hampshire, Michael joined A C Frost and Partners at Slough in April 1982 based at their centralised professional department covering the Thames Valley and Chilterns. He opened a surveying department in Uxbridge in 1983. He rejoined Pearsons in Hampshire in 1985. Both firms were then acquired by Prudential in April 1986.

In May 1986, Michael co-founded Kempton Carr. Initially operating from Maidenhead, he opened a new office in Gerrards Cross in May 1991 and was based there from January 1992 until 2005, when he returned to the Maidenhead head office to expand the firm's activities. Kempton Carr incorporated in 2006 and following acquisition of another firm, began trading as Kempton Carr Croft in September 2007.

Michael has for the last 30 years provided a wide range of professional services throughout mainly the Thames Valley, West London and Chilterns, but nationally when required.

Expertise

Throughout his 30 year career, Michael has worked in private practice. Michael's principal activity is the surveying and valuation of commercial and residential property. However, he provides a range of ancillary professional Building Surveying and related Dispute Services. Michael has built up considerable experience as an advisor and Expert Witness relating to Valuation, Landlord & Tenant, Construction, Boundary, Party Wall and similar disputes as well as dealing with reports upon issues of professional negligence. He has considerable experience in Leasehold Enfranchisement valuation and procedure; Party Wall Act matters and Dilapidation protocols and dispute resolution.

His keen interest in dispute resolution was nurtured in the mid 1980's when first instructed to act an Expert Witness. Since then, he has continued to do so on a regular basis; accepting between 35 and 50 appointments a year. Many appointments are restricted to the preparation of Expert Reports and/or the provision of initial advice to parties. A small proportion have reached court / tribunal and Michael has given oral evidence to the County Court, Lands Tribunal, Arbitration and similar Tribunals and has prepared written reports for Arbitrations, County and High Court hearings and the Lands Tribunal.

Michael Carr's most recent Court Attendance was in January and April 2011, in connection with a boundary dispute when he was cross-examined for 3 days; he has previously given evidence in Court on a number of occasions over the last 20 years in regard to such matters as: Building/Construction, Matrimonial and other Valuation disputes as well as Surveyor/Solicitor Negligence. He has given valuation evidence at the Upper (Lands) Tribunal in February 2008 and June 2009. The latter was an Appeal from the Leasehold Valuation Tribunal. Finally, Michael has been very active in the Residential Tribunal (LVT) in 2009, 2010 and 2011, giving evidence on a number of cases.
